tanzmainz is the contemporary dance company of the Staatstheater Mainz, Germany, and has been directed by Honne Dohrmann since 2014. The international team of 22 dancers works closely with a diverse production crew to create up to five world premieres per season in collaboration with renowned guest choreographers.
All dancers of tanzmainz master different dance techniques and are open-minded to develop and to reinvent themselves with every new choreographer. This variety of dance styles and performances enchants with up to 120 shows a season a constantly growing audience in Mainz, all over Germany and worldwide on tour. In the near future, tanzmainz will combine international touring and performing in Mainz.
tanzmainz sees itself as a place of creation, therefore all works have been created at the Staatstheater Mainz in cooperative projects involving our crew and our guests. tanzmainz aims to be a bridge between the state theatres of Germany and the independent scene.
In 2020 tanzmainz was chosen to host one of the biggest European dance events, happening every three years in a different city: The Tanzkongress. From 16 to 19 June 2022, the Tanzkongress 2022 – Sharing Potentials, an event by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes, in cooperation with the Staatstheater Mainz, supported by the Goethe-Institut took place in Mainz. The starting point for the concept of Tanzkongress was how tanzmainz operates within the context of the independent dance scene and repertory theatre and at the interface between the two. The programme was curated among others by Honne Dohrmann (Program director Tanzkongress 2022).

Dance Director
Honne Dohrmann studied German language and literature, journalism and theater studies in Göttingen and Berlin. Afterwards he worked as program coordinator of the Kulturetage in Oldenburg, founded kultur nord - kulturmanagement and served as artistic director, curator and dramaturg for numerous dance and theater festivals including LAOKOON (Hamburg), PRISMA (Oldenburg), POLYZENTRAL (Hamburg) and TANZ Bremen Festival. Honne Dohrmann moved to the Staatstheater Mainz for the season 2014/15. Since then he has been director of the 22-person ensemble tanzmainz and artistic director of the tanzmainz festival. In 2022 Honne Dohrmann was program director of the Tanzkongress in Mainz.
