Portrait

History and biography

Summary: The lives of many artists are characterised by an existence between two worlds, two cultures, the old and the new home, the place of longing and the place of being. They are constantly "in transit", in transition between arriving and leaving - an existential experience of uprooting and being torn apart, which is often reflected in their artistic work. External and internal upheavals characterise our age of restless movement, which is associated with ambivalent feelings of liberation and desire, longing and melancholy, worry and fear. In addition to various facets of the transitional, Wagner Moreira's production addresses the joyful and painful experiences of constant change as well as the search for belonging - to people and places.
The dance evening develops around the music of Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov (*1960). Based on his own biographical and geographical experience, he succeeds in his works (including AYRE) in a virtuoso way in creating a connection between different countries, landscapes and cultures and dissolving borders.

    MASSA MOBIL
Dance performance in public space by Wagner Moreira
    Premiere: 23.9.22
Concept, choreography, set, costumes: Wagner Moreira
Choreographic assistance, rehearsal director: María Bayarri Pérez
Dance: Vittoria Carpegna, Pedro Henrique Ferreira, Momoe Kawamura, Fátima López García, Win McCain, Leander Veizi, Bérénice Durozey, Chih-Yuan Yang, Vincent Wodrich, Natsuho Matsumoto
    Stage dimensions: approx. 10 x 10 m
    Venue: urban space
    Duration: approx. 30 minutes
Summary: Haidplatz, Steinerne Brücke or Stadtpark: with the performance MASSA MOBIL, the dance company conquers Regensburg's urban space.
In an open process, ten dancers create individual choreographic miniatures that explore different processes of change in ever-changing venues. Being "on the move" together with the audience creates opportunities for encounters and exchange. Beyond cultural and physical barriers, dance is intuitively accessible to all people and has great social potential as a means of communication and integration.
In the encounter between art and everyday life, MASSA MOBIL opens up new spaces for thought and different perspectives. Alternating between solo and ensemble scenes, quiet moments of vulnerability and impulsive fast dance sequences, the dancers develop a varied performance full of dynamism and emotion, playfully involving the audience in a collective dance at the end - a society in motion.

    I PLAY D(E)AD
Solo dance performance by Wagner Moreira
    Premiere: 25.9.22
Concept, choreography, performance & set: Wagner Moreira
Dramaturgy: Thomas Schütt, Esther von der Fuhr
    Video: Petros Kolotouros
    Lighting: David Herzog
    ME: Wagner Moreira
    Stage dimensions: approx. 10 x 6 m
    Venue: Haidplatz
    Duration: 60 minutes
Content: In the 23rd year after the suicide of his own father, Wagner Moreira celebrates 30 years of his dance career and his 45th birthday to boot. The coincidence of these events moves him once again to confront the taboo of suicide in a solo, but without losing sight of life and the power and beauty of the moment. In his performance, Wagner Moreira approaches this difficult topic with both lightness and thoughtfulness, giving the audience space for their own feelings and thoughts.
In an emotional balancing act between the death of his father and his own "desire to learn to die", Wagner Moreira opens up a poetic scenario in his solo to music by Erik Satie about piety and humility, determination and joie de vivre, touching on the great philosophical questions of our lives.
The solo I PLAY D(E)AD premiered at the Projekttheater Dresden in 2017 and was awarded the Saxon Dance Prize "Ursula Cain Förderpreis" 2019.
I PLAY D(E)AD wants to learn how to die by dancing - and yet celebrate life.

    INSIDEOUT
Dance piece by Wagner Moreira (10 +)
    Premiere: 23.10.22
    Production, set: Wagner Moreira
    Choreography: Wagner Moreira, Tanzcompany
    Choreographic assistance: María Bayarri Pérez

Dance: Vittoria Carpegna, Momoe Kawamura, Leander Veizi, Vincent Wodrich
    Stage dimensions: approx. 6 x 8 m
    Venue: Young Theatre
    Duration: 55 minutes
Summary: We communicate every day, not just with words. Sometimes a single look or a grimace, a gesture or even just a sound is enough to be understood or misunderstood by the other person. Our body language reveals much more than we realise. Four dancers try to make contact in different ways. New spaces and situations are constantly created in the playful dance with stage objects that sometimes form a catwalk, sometimes an aquarium. The dancers are constantly confronted with new, visible and invisible boundaries and search for moments of exchange, independence or cohesion. The audience is part of the game. They can react to the spatial changes at any time, searching for common ground and opportunities for exchange - even if this requires a change of position or side. In this way, contemporary dance can be experienced by a young audience in a playful way...Who is inside? Who is outside? Where is the boundary? And who decides?

Summary: With MARÍA DE BUENOS AIRES, Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) composed a declaration of love to the tango and to his home city of Buenos Aires, which takes on a human form in the title character María, the city saint who originally gave the work its name.
María is both a saint and a sinner, desired and abandoned, a lover and a sufferer, caught in a web of violence, sexuality, longings and fantasies. Her existence between illusion and reality is as multifaceted as the history of this city and its inhabitants - a story of the eternal cycle of becoming and passing away again.
With MARÍA DE BUENOS AIRES, Piazzolla did not create a conventional opera, but instead cleverly interwove acting, singing and dancing with the various styles of tango nuevo. The revue, which premiered in 1968, is based on texts by the lyricist Horacio Ferrer.
Sommer Ulrickson understands Piazzolla's MARÍA DE BUENOS AIRES as a projection screen for longings and hopes. In her production, she picks up on the various levels of the metaphorical imagery and reveals the hidden layers of the work.

    LOVE LETTERS
    Dance evening by Wagner Moreira
    Premiere: 14.4.23
    Production: Wagner Moreira
Choreography: Wagner Moreira, Tanzcompany Theater Regensburg
    Choreographic assistance: María Bayarri Pérez
    Set: Kristopher Kempf
    Lighting: Wanja Ostrower
    Sound design: Wagner Moreira
    Dramaturgy: Esther von der Fuhr
    CUPIDO: Vincent Wodrich
Dance: Vittoria Carpegna, Bérénice Durozey, Pedro Henrique Ferreira, Momoe Kawamura, Fátima López García, Natsuho Matsumoto, Win McCain, Leander Veizi, Chih-Yuan Yang
Voices (recording): Kathrin Berg, Thomas Mehlhorn
    Stage dimensions: approx. 12 x 10 m
    Venue: Antoniushaus
    Duration: 80 minutes
Summary: Many of us still know it: the feeling of excitement and self-consciousness that comes over us when we pull an old love letter out of the drawer after many years and start to read it.
The rapture, the passionate and unrestrained ardour or even the abysmal suffering that can be felt in almost every line makes you wonder: did I write letters like that back then? And could I still do it today: write so openly about my feelings, even if it makes me vulnerable?
Love letters bear witness to intense feelings. They reflect the state between fulfilment and lack, happiness and pain. How should, how can you put these intense feelings into honest words without using empty phrases that everyone finds bland and knows? And how do today's digital love messages differ from the love letters written on paper and by hand in the "good old days"?
We want to explore these feelings and questions in the dance evening LOVE LETTERS - with the same melancholy lightness with which Leonard Cohen once sang about the phases of love and a relationship in DANCE ME TO THE END OF LOVE.
