Dem Ballett-Ensemble des Gärtnerplatztheaters gehören derzeit 20 Tänzerinnen und Tänzer an.
Die Kompagnie steht für zeitgenössischen Tanz: Im Zentrum ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit steht die Entwicklung und Perfektionierung einer unmittelbar berührenden und dynamisch-kraftvollen Tanzsprache, die auf der Grundlage des klassischen Bewegungsrepertoires neue Ausdrucksformen schafft. Zahlreiche Uraufführungen (u. a. »memento mori« von Edward Clug und Karl Alfred Schreiner, »Arsen – ein Rokokothriller« von Jo Strømgren, »Frankfurt Diaries« von Antony Rizzi, Allison Brown, Georg Reischl, Christopher Roman, Michael Schumacher und »Peter Pan« von Emanuele Soavi) zeugen von der Begeisterung der Tänzerinnen und Tänzer für Unentdecktes, die innovative Dancesoap »Minutemade« von der Faszination am Experimentieren und Improvisieren. Daneben zollt das Ensemble aber auch den großen Meisterwerken des Tanzrepertoires (z. B.: »Dornröschen« und »Schlagobers«, jeweils in der Choreografie von Karl Alfred Schreiner, »One Flat Thing, reproduced« von William Forsythe) seine Hochachtung.
Das Ballett des Staatstheaters am Gärtnerplatz arbeitet regelmäßig mit international renommierten Gastchoreografen zusammen, u. a. Jo Strømgren, Marco Goecke, Jacopo Godani, Antony Rizzi, Allison Brown, Georg Reischl, Christopher Roman, Michael Schumacher, Marguerite Donlon, Nanine Linning, Erna Ómarsdóttir, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa und Emanuele Soavi.
In der Spielzeit 2022/2023 präsentiert die Kompagnie neben der Fortsetzung von »Minutemade« die Produktionen »Giselle«, »Höhenrausch« und »La Strada«.
On the ensemble´s history
Ballet has been an integral part of the theatre’s operations since it was founded in 1865 under the name Actien Volkstheater am Gärtnerplatz, and has contributed substantially to its artistic profile over the course of its turbulent history. A number of ballet directors have made their mark on the Gärtnerplatztheater, including Werner Stammer, Günter Pick, Ivan Sertic, Philip Taylor and Hans-Henning Paar. Karl Alfred Schreiner took over as artistic director of the ballet at the state theatre in Gärtnerplatz at the start of the 2012/13 season. The ballet company of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz was awarded the 2022 Dance Prize of the City of Munich.
Karl Alfred Schreiner
Karl Alfred Schreiner has held engagements as a dancer at the Wiener Staatsoper and Oper Graz. He has worked as a choreographer since 1999 for theatres including the Tel Aviv Opera House, the Wiener Staatsoper, Volksoper Wien, the Theater an der Wien, the Copenhagen Opera and the Hamburg State Opera. At the start of the 2012/13 season, he took the post of ballet director at the state theatre at Gärtnerplatz, where he has choreographed pieces including “Im weißen Rössl”, “Dornröschen”, “memento mori”, “Berlin 1920 – Eine Burleske”, “Die Zirkusprinzessin” and “Schlagobers”.
